About The Position
The Custodian ensures the effective cleanliness and maintenance of assigned facilities and projects, including locker rooms, floors, grounds, and general custodial areas. The role helps maintain a safe, clean, and healthy environment and supports a positive member experience. Nights and weekends are required. The Greater Philadelphia YMCA provides training, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a nonprofit organization working to strengthen the community.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a high school or technical school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Be able to operate cleaning equipment.
- Be available to work nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize walls, floors, furniture, and equipment using appropriate supplies and following product label instructions.
- Vacuum, sweep, and dust areas, furniture, light fixtures, and other equipment.
- Monitor trash routinely and dispose of it according to procedures.
- Set up and break down equipment as needed.
- Ensure equipment used for member programs is clean, sanitized, and in good working order.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and help maintain the safety of members, program participants, guests, and staff.
- Keep closets and shop areas neat, organized, and safe, with supplies and chemicals properly labeled.
