About The Position

A custodian in a shop environment maintains cleanliness and order in the workspace to support a safe and efficient working atmosphere. The role includes routine cleaning, waste disposal, restocking supplies, and maintaining the wash rack area so equipment is properly cleaned and stored. The custodian may also assist with minor repairs and report maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel. The role supports the overall productivity and safety of the industrial shop.

The position is often exposed to the elements, moving machinery and equipment, grease, electrical currents, dust, dirt, chemicals, and other environmental factors. It requires physical stamina and the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and stand for long periods.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 0–6 months of experience in general labor or a related field.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and stand for long periods.
• Ability to obtain certifications and perform work on a forklift as needed.

Responsibilities

• Keep offices, buildings, grounds, and line shop facilities clean and orderly.
• Sweep, shovel, or vacuum loose debris or salvageable scrap into containers and remove containers from work areas.
• Inspect parts, equipment, or vehicles for cleanliness, damage, and compliance with standards or regulations.
• Make minor maintenance repairs as needed.
• Notify a supervisor about needed repairs.
• Wash trucks, trailers, and company vehicles as required.
• Obtain certifications and perform work on a forklift as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
