About The Position

The Louisiana Veterans Homes is seeking a dependable WAE Custodian to assist with upkeep and operations in the Housekeeping department. The role performs basic manual tasks to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions, and appearance of state buildings and facilities. The position supports the Louisiana Veterans Homes’ mission to provide medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services to veterans with respect and compassion. The ideal candidate is a team player, willing to learn, and able to meet job requirements in a fast-paced environment.

This is a classified WAE appointment limited to 1,245 hours in a 12-month period. No Civil Service test score or assessment is required for consideration. Requirements

• Must be willing to learn and work as a team player in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Clean bathrooms, offices, hallways, and other assigned areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing.
• Empty and decontaminate trash containers and may assist with disposing of infectious waste.
• Move, rearrange, and dust furniture and fixtures.
• Learn to mix or blend cleaning solutions to proper concentrations for various tasks.
• Assist with setting up tables, chairs, and other furniture for meetings, banquets, and other occasions.
• Wash blinds, windows, and walls with prescribed solutions.
• Operate a vacuum to clean carpeted areas.
• Strip, decontaminate, and make beds for patients, residents, students, and others.
• Report needs for minor building or equipment repairs to a higher-level custodian.
