About The Position

Under supervision, the Custodian performs manual tasks to maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation of the interior and exterior of Village facilities. Duties include routine custodial services, floor maintenance, snow removal, operating custodial equipment and Village vehicles, and supporting Village special events. The position requires following established safety practices, Village policies, and service standards to help ensure public facilities are clean, safe, and well maintained. This is a part-time position of 20 hours per week. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The work takes place indoors and outdoors, including in varying weather conditions.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work independently while following established procedures.
Ability to maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
Ability to identify supply needs and report them to supervisory personnel.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Village employees, and the public.
Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations.
Elementary knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning operations.
Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Six months of janitorial experience in an office, commercial, or industrial setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties.

Responsibilities

Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the interior and exterior of Village facilities.
Check exterior building areas for debris and dispose of it as needed.
Perform snow removal activities.
Wash windows and clean and maintain carpeted and non-carpeted floors.
Strip and wax floors and scrub restroom floors.
Operate custodial equipment, including floor scrubbers and carpet shampoo/extractors.
Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of Village special events.
Operate Village vehicles to work at various facilities, transport items, and assist with snowplowing operations.
Maintain appropriate standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
Follow Village policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Report unsafe conditions, accidents, facility issues, and supply needs to supervisory personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
