About The Position

The Custodian performs manual work completing a variety of cleaning and facility-support tasks at the university’s main campus. The position supports Facility Services and the campus through miscellaneous activities as directed, working under the guidance of a Custodial Lead or Custodial Supervisor. It is a full-time, hourly position with a Monday–Friday schedule; hours may vary, and some weekend work is required. The starting wage for well-qualified candidates is $16.18 per hour. Facility Services supports the university’s academic mission and emphasizes safety, customer service, cooperation, integrity, and innovation. The department uses a team approach and interacts with the campus community, customers, service providers, and outside contractors to support facility operations, maintenance, and repairs. Employment is contingent on a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical test, and authorization to work in the United States. Successful applicants must provide three references, including a current or former supervisor.

Requirements

Physical strength and stamina to bend, stoop, kneel, move furniture, and remain on feet for extended periods.

Ability to accept and follow supervisory direction.
Knowledge of basic safety precautions, including handling caustic and toxic chemicals, lifting heavy objects, and using safe work clothing and coverings.
Willingness to perform repetitive tasks and take pride in doing a good job.

Ability to learn, operate, and use standard cleaning implements and tools.

Eligibility to work in the United States by the effective date of appointment; employer visa sponsorship is not offered.

Responsibilities

Monitor and secure facility interior and exterior entrances, and report issues to appropriate entities.
Maintain clean, clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.
Use basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables.
Keep supply areas and equipment organized, document inventory, and request additional supplies as needed.
Perform miscellaneous activities in support of Facility Services and the university campus as directed.
Follow guidance from a Custodial Lead or Custodial Supervisor.
