About The Position

Under close supervision, the Custodian performs routine cleaning, custodial, and delivery duties with department-specific responsibilities. The role involves cleaning and sanitizing interior areas and nearby exterior walkways, maintaining floors and furnishings, handling supplies and equipment, responding to urgent cleanup situations, and reporting maintenance issues. Regular and reliable attendance is required, along with other duties as assigned. The position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary is determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent and one year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Must successfully complete a background check.
Knowledge of county policies and procedures; cleaning and sanitizing materials, methods, and practices; custodial operations; occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Skill in maintaining safety standards and following written and verbal instructions.
Ability to lift 40 pounds; work in varying extreme weather conditions; and repeatedly bend, kneel, squat, pull, and push.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to stand, bend, walk, and stoop, and to perform the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

Sweep, vacuum, and mop floors in hallways, stairways, and offices.
Wipe, dust, and polish furniture and metalwork; clean and polish woodwork, walls, windows, and window blinds.
Empty ashtrays, recycling bins, and waste paper baskets; arrange office furniture.
Clean, disinfect, sanitize, and stock lavatories and restrooms; clean water fountains and wash basins.
Open and close doors and windows.
Operate and maintain floor-care equipment.
Clean or wash down outside areas and walkways immediately surrounding the building as required.
Respond to emergency and urgent cleanup situations, including spills, leaks, and floods.
Assist with lifting and moving heavy objects such as desks, filing cabinets, and tables.
Identify and report maintenance issues to a supervisor or on-call maintenance staff.
Prepare cleaning solutions by mixing water and detergents or acids according to specifications.
Clean spills and unsafe conditions promptly and according to procedures.
Dispose of hazardous waste and contaminated materials using approved methods.
Load and unload supplies and equipment.
Assemble new furniture or items as needed; paint or repair items as needed.
Maintain regular and reliable attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
