About The Position

The Custodian provides janitorial services and maintains the facility’s appearance and cleanliness to a high standard for visitors and building occupants. The role includes routine cleaning and sanitizing, responding to janitorial emergencies, restocking and inspecting latrine facilities, collecting indoor and outdoor debris, and maintaining floors and other surfaces. Work must be performed carefully to avoid damage or disfigurement to furniture, equipment, and building structures, while helping create an environment of excellence and graciousness.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain Homeland Security clearance/DHS.
• Ability to understand, read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Perform work without damaging or disfiguring furniture, equipment, or building structures.
• Regularly sit and talk or hear; may perform repeated motions involving the arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Occasionally walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Close vision.

Responsibilities

• Respond immediately to janitorial emergencies such as spills or other urgent situations.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Perform painting and lighting and fixture replacements.
• Restock latrine facilities and use a checklist to verify their condition at least twice per normal business day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon as workload allows.
• Correct facility deficiencies, including supply and cleanliness issues, within one hour of discovery.
• Display neat and appropriate signs, such as danger or hazardous-floor signs, wherever cleaning operations are in progress, and remove them when no longer needed.
• Maintain building and grounds cleanliness, including indoor and outdoor trash and debris collection.
• Collect surface debris in maintenance bays, parking areas, sidewalks, and roadways, and perform street, bay, parking, and walkway sweeping.
• Sweep, mop, clean lavatories and their surfaces and fixtures, disinfect, and buff or wax floors.
• Operate carpet-cleaning machines to shampoo carpets and/or perform bonnet cleaning.
• Prioritize workload and delegate appropriate work to meet client or event needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
