About The Position

The Janitor/Custodian ensures client facilities are sanitary, organized, and safe by performing routine cleaning and related tasks. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing work areas, bathrooms, furniture, and floors; dusting; collecting and disposing of trash; and, when no Floor Technician is designated, potentially buffing floors and completing detail work. The role also includes reporting and addressing hazardous conditions, maintaining building security, and responding to client needs. Work is performed in accordance with client needs and schedules and cannot be completed from home. On occasion, the employee may need to work outside regularly scheduled hours to accommodate a client’s needs. The position may involve working indoors and outdoors in varying climates and exposure to chemicals and physical hazards. The role requires reliable transportation; travel is extremely rare.

Requirements

• Ability to pass a background screening.
• Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screening tests.
• Ability to meet requirements to obtain a security badge when required by the client.
• Authorization to work in the United States as verified through E-Verify.
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to perform the physical activities and meet the physical demands described, including lifting or moving objects with exertion of up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.
• Visual acuity sufficient to assess accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work and observe facilities or structures.
• Ability to work in accordance with client needs and schedules, including occasional work outside regularly scheduled hours.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors and tolerate varying climates and potential exposure to chemicals and other physical hazards.

Nice To Haves

• Six months to one year of experience in a similar janitor or custodian role.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize assigned areas, including bathrooms, floors, stairways, furniture, and other surfaces.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, polish, and collect and dispose of debris and trash.
• Wash walls, ceilings, and woodwork, using step or extension ladders as needed.
• Clean grounds and parking lots of litter and debris as needed.
• Prioritize and adjust work assignments as circumstances change, and communicate changes or incomplete tasks to the supervisor.
• Recognize and report unsafe conditions, maintenance problems, and needed repairs; take immediate steps to protect safety when needed.
• Follow infection-control procedures and secure buildings at appropriate times.
• Use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and according to instructions, safety data sheets, and training; use proper lifting techniques and request assistance when needed.
• Attend and participate in staff and safety meetings.
• Represent the company positively, respond appropriately to client concerns, and report grievances to the supervisor promptly.
• Work cooperatively with coworkers and supervisors and provide or request assistance as needed.
• Provide training to other janitors as needed.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, including completing checklists, and cooperate with investigations.
• Follow company policies and procedures, including the Employee Handbook and Safety and Health Manual.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
