About The Position

Under close supervision, the Custodian performs general custodial duties, including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. The role uses appropriate materials and methods to keep areas clean and free of safety hazards. Work may be performed in an office or at a customer location, such as a commissary, federal courthouse, or military base. The position has no direct reports.

Requirements

• Ability to use a wide array of custodial and general cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment, including vacuums, backpack vacuums, and a cardboard bailer.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Computer literacy to use business software and the Internet, and to enter and retrieve data.
• Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including maneuvering around the worksite; standing and walking; bending, kneeling, reaching, and stooping; lifting up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds; pushing or pulling objects and, as required, equipment weighing up to 70 pounds; grasping small and large objects; and climbing ladders or step stools.

Responsibilities

• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.
• Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
• Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, and cigarette urns.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Refill restroom dispensers.
• Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
• Follow instructions for the use of chemicals and supplies, using them as directed.
• Wash accessible interior and exterior windows and clean blinds.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
