About The Position

This full-time, daytime position works collaboratively with others to maintain a clean and safe environment for employees and the public in State facilities. The custodian performs general cleaning across a variety of areas and surfaces, maintains supplies and equipment, and supports facility safety and security. The position is with the Department of Administration & Information, General Services Division, Facilities Operation. Employment is subject to a successful background check.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Either 0–6 months of progressive work experience, typically in Building and Grounds, or 1–2 years of progressive work experience, typically in Building and Grounds, as an education and experience substitution.
Ability to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working with cleaning materials and chemicals.
Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods used in more technical cleaning and maintenance.
Knowledge of power and manual tools.
Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

Clean, vacuum, dust, mop, and sanitize floors, furniture, offices, restrooms, bathrooms, and other areas.
Empty trash and recycling containers; wash windows and mirrors; and clean and restock restrooms.
Learn where custodial supplies are kept and replenish them as needed.
Identify areas needing repair and report them to the supervisor.
Comply with state and federal policies, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
Operate and maintain equipment, including hand and shop tools.
Move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings and events.
Perform designated watchman rounds to support building security and safety, check building systems, and update security logs.
Perform chemical renovations.
Monitor fire protection systems.
