About The Position

This full-time position works collaboratively with others to provide a clean and safe environment for employees and the public in State facilities. The custodian performs general cleaning in various areas and on different surfaces, conducts designated watchman rounds, monitors building and fire protection systems, and helps prepare spaces for meetings and events. The position is scheduled Monday through Friday at night and includes a shift differential. Employment is subject to a successful background check.

Requirements

High school diploma.
Either 0–6 months of progressive work experience, typically in Building and Grounds, or 1–2 years of progressive work experience, typically in Building and Grounds, in lieu of the education requirement.
Ability to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work around hazardous materials, chemicals, bio-hazards, and the elements.
No certificates, licenses, or registrations are required.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working with cleaning materials and chemicals is preferred.
Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of technical cleaning and maintenance.
Knowledge of power and manual tools.
Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.

Responsibilities

Clean, vacuum, dust, mop, sanitize, wash windows and mirrors, and clean and stock restrooms, bathrooms, offices, floors, and furniture.
Empty trash and recycling containers.
Learn where custodial supplies are stored and replenish supplies as needed.
Identify areas needing repair and submit information to the supervisor.
Comply with state and federal policies, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
Operate and maintain equipment, including hand and shop tools.
Move furniture and set up conference rooms for meetings and events.
Perform designated watchman rounds to support building security and safety, check building systems for proper function, and update security logs.
Perform chemical renovations.
Monitor fire protection systems.
