About The Position

This is a full-time, non-exempt position within the Custodial and Maintenance Division. The Custodian - Night will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment across various school facilities, including classrooms, washrooms, hallways, common areas, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and offices. This role involves nightly cleaning, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, waste removal, and performing minor repairs. The position operates on a 260-day work year (12.5 months) and is part of the Proviso Custodial and Maintenance Union SEIU Local 73, CTW.

Requirements

• Previous custodial or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Physical ability to lift, bend, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
• Must complete a District application to be considered for employment.

Responsibilities

• Thoroughly dust-mop all classroom floors nightly and disinfect high-touch surfaces.
• Empty trash cans daily and replace liners in classrooms, washrooms, hallways, common areas, gymnasiums, locker rooms, and offices.
• Wash all interior glass and fire door glass daily in assigned areas.
• Arrange furniture neatly and disinfect furniture nightly in classrooms.
• Remove all graffiti from desks, seats, and surfaces nightly in classrooms.
• Wash blackboards/whiteboards and trays three times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday); wash erasers nightly.
• Ensure assigned classrooms and offices are ready for daily use and report major concerns to the building lead.
• Enter building repair requests into School Dude and close them out upon completion.
• Disinfect toilets, sinks, door handles, partitions, dispensers, and all touch areas in washrooms nightly.
• Wash walls in washrooms as needed weekly; wash ceramic walls twice monthly.
• Stock washrooms with paper products and soap nightly.
• Wet mop washroom floors with disinfectant and rinse mop nightly by 6:00 pm.
• Wash all mirrors nightly in washrooms.
• Disinfect high-touch areas in hallways, stairwells, and common areas throughout the day and nightly.
• Dust-mop corridors at the start of the shift and again at the end of the night; maintain a clean appearance throughout the evening.
• Wash lockers in assigned areas carefully.
• Clean hallway corners, baseboards, and remove wax buildup.
• Dust handrails, stair stringers, ledges, windowsills, furniture, TV monitors, display case tops, and other dust-collecting surfaces nightly.
• Wet mop stairwells at least twice per week.
• Remove graffiti and spills from walls daily in hallways, stairwells, and common areas.
• Disinfect locker rooms, showers, and physical education spaces nightly per CDC guidelines, including all flat surfaces, machinery, and hardware.
• Perform minor repairs and maintain cleaning equipment.
• Assist with event setups and take-downs as required.
• Report major maintenance issues to the building lead immediately.
• Perform snow removal and ice management on walkways, entrances, and parking areas as assigned.
• Assist with seasonal maintenance tasks, such as floor waxing, field or facility winterization, and general upkeep.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the administration.
