About The Position
The University of Iowa Health Care Downtown Campus department of Environmental Services is hiring a Custodian to help provide a safe, clean, and healthy environment for patients, guests, visitors, and staff. The position is fully on campus at the Medical Center Downtown in Iowa City, Iowa. It is listed as 100% time, with a second-shift schedule of 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. and work every seventh weekend. Starting pay is $17.66 per hour. The Medical Center Downtown is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on January 31, 2024. The position is a regular salaried role and includes a benefits package. Applicants must be able to read, write, and follow directions. Previous cleaning experience, healthcare and public-facing experience, and experience using cleaning equipment are desirable. Successful candidates must disclose conviction history and undergo a criminal background check. The position is not eligible for university employment-authorization sponsorship.

Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning.
- Remove trash.
- Stock supplies for carts and custodial areas.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish restroom supplies.
- Dust, vacuum, sweep, and damp-mop hard-surface floors.
- Clean carpets.
- Make units and beds.
- Wash walls and ceilings.
- Move furniture and set up rooms.
- Use various types of custodial equipment while performing duties.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
