About The Position

Denver Health is recruiting a mission-driven Custodian I for its Environmental Services department. Under immediate supervision, the Custodian provides cleaning, bed linen change-out, floor care, moving, grounds, and project services as directed by a supervisor. The role may also include specific interior and exterior medical housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and aseptic environment throughout the hospital and clinics. Assignments may include patient-area cleaner, non-patient-area cleaner, trash technician, special care unit cleaner, or other positions. The position is an evening-shift role. Applicants for safety-sensitive positions must pass a pre-employment drug test after receiving a conditional offer. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Requirements

Required work experience: less than 1 year.
Knowledge of tools and equipment needed to do the job.
Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary precautions sufficient to establish a safe work environment.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment sufficient to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Knowledge of proper cleaning methods.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn, occasional hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to understand and follow oral, illustrated, written, or demonstrated instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to work within Health Department standards.
Formal or informal education or training sufficient to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
No high school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and equipment to prevent damage to finishes and fixtures.
Change bed linens.
Gather and empty trash and linen.
Transport and appropriately handle trash, recycling, medical waste, linen, and other items to designated areas, and maintain waste areas within regulatory standards.
Use floor-care equipment to strip, seal, finish, and polish floors, and clean carpet and upholstery.
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using cleaning solutions, sponges, and squeegees.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
Provide cleaning, moving, grounds, and project services as directed by a supervisor.
