About The Position

The Custodian I provides custodial care for Georgia State University facilities. The role cleans assigned building areas and performs room setups according to established routines and procedures. Duties may overlap as needed and include maintaining floors and other areas, cleaning and restocking restrooms, and setting up furniture and equipment in public spaces. The position handles emergency cleanups and other related work as needed. The work requires bending, twisting, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling floor equipment and large trash barrels, and lifting full trash bags weighing 30 pounds. Employees use cleaning chemicals daily and may sometimes work around potentially dangerous materials in certain laboratories. The schedule is Friday through Monday, 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM; the shift and campus location are subject to change. The position is based at the Atlanta campus.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to bend, twist, reach overhead, push and pull floor equipment and large trash barrels, and lift full trash bags weighing 30 pounds.
Normal degree of dexterity.
Use cleaning chemicals daily and sometimes work around potentially dangerous materials in certain laboratories.
Submit three professional references.

Nice To Haves

Ability to lift approximately 30–50 pounds and perform heavy lifting when required.
Some knowledge of custodial services practices, techniques, and procedures.
Six months of experience working in an institutional, industrial, or commercial setting.

Responsibilities

Sweep, dust, mop, wet mop, scrub, strip, restore, buff, and wax floors, and vacuum.
Perform other duties needed to maintain campus floor cleanliness.
Remove trash and clean counters, equipment, and furnishings.
Maintain the cleanliness of laboratories, office areas, classrooms, and other assigned work areas.
Clean and restock restrooms.
Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment in classrooms, meeting rooms, and other public areas.
Handle emergency cleanups and perform other related work as needed.
