About The Position

The Children’s Museum of South Dakota seeks a Custodian and Groundskeeper to create a high-quality experience for all guests by ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This position is responsible for daily custodial tasks and basic landscaping, contributing to the overall care and presentation of the Museum.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facility maintenance experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming Museum environment.
  • Perform routine custodial duties, including dusting, vacuuming, and mopping throughout Museum spaces.
  • Clean and sanitize classrooms, meeting rooms, staff spaces, and common areas, ensuring they are prepared for visitors and staff.
  • Wipe windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces for a polished appearance.
  • Monitor and empty garbage and recycling bins regularly.
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, and replenishing necessary supplies.
  • Continuously check high-traffic areas during operating hours to ensure cleanliness.
  • Respond promptly to spills, accidents, or urgent cleaning needs.
  • Conduct light outdoor seasonal maintenance, including weeding and deadheading plants, as well as minor snow removal.
  • Conduct daily inspections of Museum public spaces to identify, solve, or report any maintenance or safety concerns when appropriate.
  • Adhere to all Museum safety protocols and procedures.
  • Help with special facility operations projects as needed to maintain a high standard of facility care.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of rooms and spaces for meetings, events, and other functions, ensuring they are clean, ready to use, and set to specific layout requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
