About The Position

The Columbarium and Groundkeeper cleans and maintains the columbarium, assists in placing cremains and plaques on all four columbaria, maintains and reviews the grounds of the Rectory, the church and the Marian Chapel daily. Additionally, maintains all sidewalks, gardens, fountains, fountains, irrigation pump and sprinkler system clean and in working order.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Six months or more of related experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with ability to drive a truck.
  • Adhere to all Diocesan health and safety policies by maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of maintenance and on all repair projects.
  • Receive adequate training where necessary to appropriately operate equipment.
  • Maintain a respectful and quiet atmosphere in the church during the hours of liturgical celebrations.
  • The physical demands of work require routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of leadership, vendors, employees, and the general public.
  • Must have average computer skills, including aptitude with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical stamina to handle a full shift of being active and working on the building.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Unlock the columbarium gates Monday through Friday.
  • Perform a variety of maintenance and cleaning tasks, including cleaning each exposed niche monthly, washing the floor tile weekly, blowing leaves daily, and assisting in decorating for Christmas and Easter.
  • Assists in placing cremains and plaques on all four columbaria.
  • Pressure wash the overhead covered columbarium walkways monthly.
  • Lubricate the locks and hinges monthly.
  • Maintain the gardens near and surrounding all four columbaria.
  • Weed the flower beds and trim the shrubbery around all five church buildings.
  • Gather branches and trim bushes and trees on the church property.
  • Spray weed killer in gardens, along sidewalks, and parking lot areas.
  • Daily clean debris from building entrances, including using the blower to clean sidewalks.
  • Unlock and open the church and Marian Chapel gates Monday through Friday.
  • Weekly wash the floor of the Marian Chapel.
  • Monthly lubricate the locks and hinges of the Marian Chapel.
  • Monthly remove leaves and add pool chlorine to the Courtyard fountain.
  • Quarterly wash the exterior windows and glass doors on all five church buildings.
  • Maintain the appearance of all five building entrances, porticos, and sidewalks by sweeping, blowing and pressure washing.
  • Maintain the Church and Rectory lawn irrigation systems, including a monthly check on the pond pump and sprinkler heads on the entire property. Replace heads as necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the gutters on all five church buildings.
  • Maintain and paint parking lot ramps, curbs and parking spot stops as necessary.
  • Perform minor mechanical work and adjustments on equipment (i.e. golf cart, blowers).
  • Perform a variety of minor maintenance and exterior repair of facilities, including the Rectory.
  • Cross-train with the other maintenance staff to provide assistance and coverage of duties.
  • Communicate effectively with the Business Administrator and Director of Community Outreach, who will approve projects and holiday work schedules.
