About The Position

California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking a Custodial Manager to oversee daily custodial operations. This role involves supervising Custodians and Lead Custodians, ensuring quality control, staff performance, and safety training. The manager will be responsible for recruitment, performance evaluations, developing work schedules, maintaining computerized records, writing reports, and assisting with budget preparation. This position reports to the Executive Director of Facilities Management and plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the campus.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, or job-related field, or an equivalent combination of education, professional certifications, training, and progressively responsible experience.
  • Substantive progressively responsible experience supervising the daily operation, maintenance, and coordination of custodial/janitorial services in an industrial/commercial/educational environment.
  • Knowledge of management practices related to custodial services, collective bargaining, and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with multiple levels within an organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff and management.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with MS Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in all manner of custodial work including floor care, cleaning and sanitization of multiple area and finish types including but not limited to offices, restrooms, classrooms, conference spaces, kitchens, laboratories, medical facilities, and dining areas.
  • Demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
  • Must reside in the State of California.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise Custodians and Lead Custodians.
  • Oversee daily custodial operations and provide leadership.
  • Maintain fiscal accountability for the custodial department.
  • Assure quality control, staff performance, and safety training.

  • Administer performance evaluations.
  • Develop methodical work scheduling.
  • Maintain computerized records and write reports.
  • Recommend and suggest pertaining to the preparation of the Custodial budget.
  • Develop schedules for Custodial Services, considering time, manpower, and equipment.
  • Work with administration and staff to resolve problems pertaining to Custodial Services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Train staff in custodial work, including floor care, cleaning, and sanitization of various areas and finishes.
