About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The team tackles complex challenges within a supply chain with thousands of variables and seeks talented individuals to contribute. You will join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Collaboration across AWS is key to maintaining high standards of safety and security while delivering infinite capacity at the lowest cost. As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, from initial design through site improvement and maintenance. You will serve as the primary engineering resource for your region, offering technical advice and engaging with various teams to troubleshoot failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), create Corrective Action (CA) documentation, and support operational issues. This includes providing ad-hoc training, reviewing operating procedures, and supporting critical equipment and events. You will be responsible for the conceptual design of data center upgrades and solutions aimed at increasing capacity, improving availability, and enhancing efficiency and sustainability. Collaboration with internal teams such as data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety is essential to promote standards for consistency and reliability. You will develop innovative solutions for AWS data centers, manage concurrent projects potentially across multiple geographical regions, and lead engineering audits with on-site visits to produce risk reports with recommended mitigations. Additionally, you will act as a resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover phases.

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
• Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
• Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
• Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
• Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
