About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The team tackles complex challenges within a supply chain with thousands of variables and seeks talented individuals to contribute. You will join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers, collaborating across AWS to uphold the highest standards of safety and security while delivering immense capacity at the lowest possible cost. As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, from initial design through site improvements and maintenance. You will serve as the primary engineering resource for your region, offering technical advice and engaging with various teams to troubleshoot failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation. You will directly support operational issues through ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, and event support. A key responsibility includes owning the conceptual design for upgrades and solutions to enhance data center capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability. You will interface with internal teams such as data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety to promote standards for consistency and reliability. The role involves developing innovative solutions, managing concurrent projects potentially across multiple geographical regions, and leading engineering audits with on-site visits to produce risk reports with recommended mitigations. You will also act as a resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
