About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring the cloud runs smoothly. This involves supporting all AWS data centers and the associated servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. The role is part of a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. The position focuses on collaborating across AWS to maintain high standards of safety and security while providing scalable and cost-effective capacity for customers. As an Amazon Critical Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide full life-cycle support for AWS Data Centers, from initial design through site improvements and maintenance. You will serve as the primary engineering resource for your region, offering technical advice and engaging with various teams to troubleshoot and resolve site/equipment failures, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation. You will also provide direct support for operational issues through ad-hoc training, reviews of operating procedures, and event support. A key aspect of the role involves owning the conceptual design for data center upgrades and developing solutions to enhance capacity, availability, efficiency, and sustainability. You will interface with internal teams such as data center operations, design engineering, server hardware, and environmental health and safety to promote consistent and reliable service delivery. The role also includes developing innovative solutions, managing concurrent projects across multiple regions, initiating and leading engineering audits with on-site visits, producing risk reports with recommended mitigations, and acting as a resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Requirements

• 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• 4+ years of commissioning experience
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
• Experience in commissioning
• 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial, municipal, or commercial engineering including but not limited to the following sectors: data centers, power generation, oil/gas facilities.
• Must have a valid US driver's license and reliable personal transportation by start date.

• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• Basic understanding of both mechanical and/or electrical equipment/design related to data centers (Including but not limited to: uninterruptable power sources, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers [air-cooled and water-cooled], pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, fans, air economizers, water treatment, etc...)

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
• Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including critical equipment, and event support.
• Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
• Interface with internal data center operations team, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
• Develop innovative solutions for AWS’s data centers.
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
• Initiate and lead engineering audits including on-site visits within Amazon’s data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediations.
• Act as resident engineer during new construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and turnover.
