Crisis Worker

Thresholds•Kankakee, IL

About The Position

Thresholds’ Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) provides services and supports to people experiencing mental health crises in the Uptown, Lakeview, and North Center communities. The Crisis Worker responds to crises as an alternative to or in conjunction with hospitalization or police response. During each shift, the worker answers calls to the crisis hotline and conducts a prompt, thorough safety assessment to determine an appropriate response. The worker may connect callers with services or providers, or conduct a face-to-face intervention alongside a Peer Engagement Specialist at a home, workplace, or other community location. The team uses the least restrictive intervention possible, ranging from support during a panic attack to assistance with hospitalization. Community interventions occur year-round and in all weather conditions. The team may distribute basic necessities, including first aid items, water, or warm clothes. After an intervention, the worker offers follow-up based on the client’s needs and documents services provided. During downtime, the worker may pursue self-directed professional development projects and community outreach. Thresholds offers a collaborative and supportive culture, training, professional development, and clinical supervision to build skills in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based practices.
