About The Position

St. John's University, established in 1870, is seeking adjunct faculty for its Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Programs for the Fall 2026 semester. The programs are located on the Queens campus and aim to prepare students for careers in the criminal justice system and homeland security enterprise through specialized courses and practical internships. The division seeks adjunct assistant professors/instructors to teach in a face-to-face setting for 85-minute class sessions that meet twice a week. Rank and salary are determined by education level, industry experience, and college teaching experience. The division is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Master's degree.
  • A minimum of five years of significant work experience in the field.
  • Experience teaching in higher education in the field of news broadcasting, sports broadcasting or sports journalism.
  • Industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and distribute to students a course outline in accordance with the course syllabus.
  • Develop instructional materials (lectures, readings, assignments, exams, projects, etc.) that will achieve the learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus.
  • Evaluate student performance throughout the semester and provide periodic and constructive feedback to students.
  • Evaluate student performance and post grades for each student as directed by the Provost’s Office and offer availability to discuss grades with students in person, by email or phone.
  • Promptly respond to requests for information before, during, and after the course as required by the Division Chair and the CCPS Dean’s Office.
