About The Position

Gigantic Playground, a CourtAvenue company, is a creative technology agency that develops immersive and interactive experiences combining creativity, storytelling, and product innovation. The Creative Director, Interactive Experiences, owns the creative direction of work people interact with, including event installations, product launch apps, and connected retail experiences. The role balances setting the studio’s creative standards with hands-on involvement in the details of design and interaction, and combines spatial storytelling, sensory and environmental design, and interactive technology. This leadership role guides designers and technologists, works directly with client leadership, and helps shape the studio’s approach to interactive work across evolving platforms and tools, including AR, VR, connected hardware, and generative AI. The role remains involved throughout production to ensure that the finished experience fulfills the original creative ambition and is compelling, practical to build, and effective on-site.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years in a creative role focused on interactive, digital, or experience design, including several years directly managing a team.
  • A portfolio demonstrating range across interaction design, visual design, and concept development.
  • Direct experience partnering with enterprise or consumer technology clients and navigating their stakeholder structures.
  • Willingness to work directly with creative tools, rather than only reviewing others’ work.
  • Working understanding of current hardware and software capabilities, with the ability to develop ambitious but buildable ideas.
  • Current, hands-on experience using AI tools as part of the candidate’s own creative process.
  • Comfort working across the full project lifecycle, from concept sketches and rapid prototyping to finished, fabricated, on-site experiences.
  • Familiarity with the broader interactive and immersive landscape, including AR, VR, projection, and sensor-driven installations.

Nice To Haves

  • A portfolio piece that clearly increased how long people engaged with an experience.
  • Peer or industry press recognition for work led by the candidate.
  • Clients who specifically request the candidate for new and difficult projects.
  • Background in large-scale experiential production.

Responsibilities

  • Define the creative point of view for interactive projects, turning client briefs or new technology into experience concepts.
  • Stay involved through production to ensure finished work reflects the original creative ambition.
  • Set and maintain high standards for design, motion, and interaction quality across studio projects.
  • Manage and develop designers, creative technologists, and producers by providing clear direction and room to do strong work.
  • Serve as the primary creative contact for clients and balance business goals with the creation of compelling experiences.
  • Pitch ideas and present completed work in ways that build client confidence in the studio’s judgment and execution.
  • Monitor new interactive formats, hardware, and platforms, and recommend relevant opportunities to clients.
  • Introduce AI-assisted tools into team workflows when they are useful for concepting, prototyping, or content production.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level creatives through critique and guidance.
  • Oversee spatial and environmental design alongside interactive content so physical and digital elements feel cohesive.
  • Work with production, fabrication, and technology partners to ensure concepts can be built, staffed, and maintained on-site.
  • Follow trends in interactive art, entertainment design, and consumer technology and bring relevant thinking into studio work.
