About The Position

Omnify Lighting, a North American manufacturer of architectural back lighting systems, is seeking a skilled Crate Builder to join their packaging team. The primary responsibility is building custom wood crates to protect products during transit. This role involves measuring, cutting, and assembling crates using power saws, pneumatic tools, and hand tools. When crate-building volume is lower, the Crate Builder will assist with general packaging tasks to support the team and maintain production flow. Safety is paramount, with strict adherence to safety procedures and PPE requirements expected daily. While carpentry experience is beneficial, the company is willing to train individuals with a strong packaging background who prioritize safety.

Requirements

  • Ability to measure product and cut wood and other materials to build custom-sized crates.
  • Proficiency in using power saws, drills, nail guns, pneumatic staplers, and other power tools.
  • Ability to securely fasten crate parts with appropriate hardware.
  • Skill in loading and positioning products inside crates with proper cushioning and support.
  • Ability to secure items using foam, bubble wrap, or bracing.
  • Capability to label crates with accurate shipping information.
  • Ability to inspect finished crates for structural integrity, accuracy, and damage.
  • Skill in catching and reporting material or construction defects.
  • Ability to make adjustments or repairs to maintain crate quality.
  • Willingness to support general packaging and shipment-prep tasks when crate-building demand is lower.
  • Strict adherence to all safety procedures related to power and pneumatic tools and material handling.
  • Consistent use of required PPE.
  • Adherence to company standards for crate construction and packaging materials.
  • Proactive approach to spotting and flagging unsafe conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Label crates with accurate shipping information.

  • When crate-building demand is lower, work alongside the packaging team on general packaging and shipment-prep tasks to help the team hit production and shipping deadlines.

  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Adhere to company standards for crate construction and packaging materials.
  • Help spot and flag unsafe conditions before they become incidents.
