Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict, and often competing, deadlines in a fast-paced business or professional setting, preferably in a legal setting.
  • Experience using a computer and different software programs to accomplish a variety of tasks that involve data entry, looking up accounts or cases, scheduling events in electronic calendars, and updating information.
  • Experience providing customer service to a variety of individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Experience identifying and safeguarding confidential information and materials.
  • Must complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's I-9 form within three days of hire.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and will be verified via E-Verify.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare files for pretrial review.
  • Schedule hearings and trial dates.
  • Prepare motions, orders, and judgments.
  • Retrieve case law as requested.
  • Manage the judge’s docket.
  • Update multiple calendars.
  • Assist with case tracking.
  • Review documents filed with the court for accuracy and completeness.
  • Screen visitors and mail.
  • Obtain needed signatures.
  • Certify court orders.
  • Summarize the day’s rulings.
  • Verify the status of warrants.
  • Prepare the courtroom for the day’s proceedings.
  • Swear in witnesses.
  • Mark and maintain exhibits.
  • Maintain audio and electronic records.
  • Monitor proceedings.
  • Update the case management system.
  • Schedule and facilitate Cisco Webex appearances as needed.
  • Respond to security needs.
  • Assist attorneys, litigants, and the public with using the court system.
  • Answer questions about case status and court procedures.
  • Provide backup for the judicial assistant.
  • Train and mentor newer courtroom clerks as needed.
  • Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
