About The Position

The Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller is seeking a Courtroom Clerk in their Palm Beach Gardens office. This role involves updating misdemeanor & traffic cases live in court, learning legal terminology and documents, understanding Florida State Statutes, and working alongside a judge on the bench. A courtroom clerk is an integral part of the courtroom team, accurately preparing the official record of hearing events in a fast-paced environment, working closely with judges, hearing officers, bailiffs, attorneys, interpreters, and other criminal justice partners. This position is eligible for a one dollar per hour stipend upon completion of the introductory period, which will be added to the advertised salary. The stipend will not apply if the employee transfers out of this position.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, supplemented by three (3) years of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to accurately apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of detailed data, preferably in an automated systems environment, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Once qualified, deputization may be required to perform the assigned functions.
  • This is a mandatory testing position, successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination (if applicable) is required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately record details of court proceedings entering items into database such as: court proceedings notes, hearing information and outcomes, trial proceedings and outcomes, bail bonds, motions, dispositions, parties involve, evidence, obligations, judgment, and sentence information.
  • Function as procedural and operational liaison, in the courtroom, between Judges, attorneys and the public.
  • Review all case files and database entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain flexibility and professionalism when fulfilling responsibilities for assigned courtroom and calendars.
  • Act as a team player by sharing knowledge and information on courtroom processes and procedures.
  • Handle multiple tasks, including listening, writing, scheduling court dates, answering questions, entering data, and monitoring the flow and electronic record of the court proceedings.
  • Cover all types of high-volume, fast-paced courtrooms either independently or as a team.
  • Adjust and maintain working knowledge of changing technology.
  • Accepts exhibits and prepares exhibit list; secures custody, prepares, transfers and delivers evidence to evidence department; verifies and accounts for each item.
  • Maintains court calendars; manages setting of hearings.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no notice based on Judicial needs.
