About The Position

The Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) is seeking a Courtroom Clerk for the Jackson County Circuit Court in Medford, Oregon. This role is part of the Court Support Unit and involves significant time spent in the courtroom. The ideal candidate will be committed to serving the public, removing barriers to access justice, and interacting positively with the community. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to three (3) years of experience that typically supports the knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict deadlines in a busy business or professional setting.
  • Experience using a variety of software programs to access and input information and complete various tasks.
  • Experience coordinating schedules and maintaining calendars.
  • Experience providing customer service to a variety of individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Experience and skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy, content, spelling, and grammar.
  • Must start the process of CJIS clearance within the first week of hire.
  • Must complete the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States (OJD does not offer visa sponsorships).

  • Bilingual skills (includes ASL) may qualify for a 5% allowance if a skills test is passed and skills are assigned on the job.

Responsibilities

  • Create a digital recording of court proceedings.
  • Operate multimedia equipment.
  • Perform real-time data entry.
  • Keep session logs.
  • Prepare and process a variety of documents, forms, and orders.
  • Mark and process exhibits.
  • Swear in witnesses and jurors.
  • Oversee jurors during deliberations.
  • Host remote court sessions using Cisco Webex (phone or video conference).
  • Clerk court sessions at off-site locations such as jails and medical facilities.
  • Partner with other court staff to provide administrative support.
  • Schedule in-person and remote hearings.
  • Prepare cases for the next day’s calendar.
  • Maintain and store court logs.
  • Review and prepare copies of CDs.
  • Return exhibits.
  • Accept electronic filings.
  • Scan documents and verify the quality of scanned images.
  • Enter documents into the electronic case management system.
  • Respond to questions about court cases, calendars, and processes from judges, court staff, attorneys, litigants, agencies, and the public.
  • Provide customer service in person, over the phone, and in writing.
  • Perform assigned tasks as changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
