About The Position

The Multnomah County Circuit Court is hiring a Courtroom Clerk for the Honorable Xiomara Torres. In this role, you will support the judge and judicial assistant by preparing files for pretrial review, scheduling hearings and trial dates, and preparing motions, orders, and judgments. You will retrieve case law as requested, manage the judge’s docket, update multiple calendars, and help with case tracking. You will review documents filed with the court for accuracy and completeness. You will screen visitors and mail, obtain needed signatures, certify court orders, summarize the day’s rulings, and verify the status of warrants. Additionally, you will prepare the courtroom for the day’s proceedings. You will swear in witnesses, mark and maintain exhibits, maintain audio and electronic records, and monitor proceedings. You will update the case management system and schedule and facilitate Cisco Webex appearances as needed. You will respond to security needs. You will also help attorneys, litigants, and the public use the court system and will answer questions about the status of cases and court procedures. You will spend part of your time providing backup for the judicial assistant and will train and mentor newer courtroom clerks as needed. Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least three (3) years of responsible experience in a moderately complex office or business setting involving the processing of financial, administrative, or legal documents.
  • Experience performing a variety of clerical or administrative support tasks with strict, and often competing, deadlines in a fast-paced business or professional setting, preferably in a legal setting.
  • Experience using a computer and different software programs to accomplish a variety of tasks that involve data entry, looking up accounts or cases, scheduling events in electronic calendars, and updating information.
  • Experience providing customer service to a variety of individuals in challenging circumstances.
  • Skill in writing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Experience identifying and safeguarding confidential information and materials.
