About The Position

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University is seeking Course Lecturers for the Fall 2026 term. Requirements

  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Russian or registered in the Russian Studies graduate program at McGill (for RUSS210 courses)
  • Native or near native fluency in Russian required (for RUSS210 courses)
  • A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in Russian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University (for RUSS210 courses)
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in Russian Studies language courses (for RUSS210 courses)
  • M.A. or Ph.D. in German or registered in the German Studies graduate program at McGill (for GERM202D1 and GERM259 courses)
  • Native or near native fluency in German required (for GERM202D1 and GERM259 courses)
  • A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in German Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University (for GERM202D1 courses)
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in German Studies language courses (for GERM202D1 courses)
  • M.A. or Ph.D. in Italian or registered in the Italian Studies graduate program at McGill (for ITAL205D1 course)
  • Native or near native fluency in Italian required (for ITAL205D1 course)
  • A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in Italian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University (for ITAL205D1 course)
  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in Italian Studies language courses (for ITAL205D1 course)
  • Authorized to work in Canada
  • Willing to work in the province of Quebec at the campus where the position is based / located
  • English communication both verbally and in writing

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in German Studies language courses (for GERM259 course)

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of the Course and Course plan
  • Delivery of the Course
  • Evaluation of students
  • Submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades
  • Supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff
  • Upon request, review of their students’ grades
  • Meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements
  • Teach the scheduled classes
  • Use the prescribed course materials and follow the class plan and test schedule established in the syllabus
  • Collaborate with colleagues to prepare in-class tests, quizzes, exercises, and final exams
  • Invigilate any scheduled in-class exams, final exams, and oral-exams
  • Attend scheduled meetings with the Language Program Director
