About The Position

The purpose of this course is to examine key facets of crime prevention. Students will be given the opportunity to learn about the nature of specific crimes, their consequences, and underlying root causes and their implications for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. The course will focus on crime prevention programs and policies that have been developed in response to crime. This course has a Community Service Learning (CSL) component. All virtual asynchronous courses have been pre-developed with course content and syllabi. Scheduled final examinations are expected to be held in-person, and the instructor is required to be present for the administration and proctoring of the exam.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree
  • MA in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a cognate discipline (e.g. sociology / psychology) that is clearly and directly connected to the course content, and with a focus on crime or deviance.
  • CV (Maximum of 10 pages, with 12-point font and 2.54 cm margins).
  • Candidate Application Form (CAF - Appendix I).
  • Ability to articulate how work and academic experience enhances ability to teach the course on the CAF.
  • Verification of highest degree (highly recommended to include with application for external applicants).
  • Name and contact information for referees (for external applicants).

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience in the field is an asset.
  • Prior teaching experience.
  • PhD or ABD preferred.
  • Teaching Dossier and/or relevant supplementary documentation (Maximum of 25 pages in total, with 12-point font and 2.54 cm margins).

Responsibilities

  • Teach the course CC319 VA1 – Crime Prevention.
  • Administer and proctor the in-person final examination.
  • Develop course content and syllabi (note: this is stated as pre-developed, but teaching implies responsibility for delivery).
  • Assess student applications based on the Candidate Application Form (CAF) and CV.
  • Ensure applications are submitted by the deadline.
