About The Position

American Welding & Gas, Inc. has an immediate opportunity for a Counter Representative / Backup Driver at its Tullahoma, Tennessee location. The role primarily assists customers with purchasing and ordering gases and welding and industrial supplies. Additional work includes maintaining hard goods, receiving and controlling inventory, and providing backup cylinder delivery. The position requires a Class B CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements, or the ability to obtain both. American Welding & Gas is an employee-owned company that manufactures and distributes industrial, medical, specialty, and beverage gases. Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Class B CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements, or the ability to obtain both.
Clean driving record.
Ability to read and write English.
Ability to communicate with customers.
Ability to move compressed gas and liquid cylinders.
Frequently lift 50–75 pounds and maneuver cylinders weighing over 100 pounds, including by rolling them or using a cart.
Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, DOT physical, and company-administered road test.
Work in a drug-free environment.

Responsibilities

Assist customers in the store and by phone with purchasing and ordering products.
Handle cylinder returns, exchanges, and purchases.
Process cash and charge-account transactions; reconcile cash, credit card, and charge transactions and end-of-day cash drawers.
Conduct branch collection activities and customer-retention calls.
Assist the manager with opening and closing the store, including securing cylinders and other areas and setting alarms.
Monitor inventory levels, check in inventory, and put it away.
Receive freight and create barcode labels with part numbers.
Schedule deliveries and service calls.
Support the outside sales team.
Follow and comply with company safety policies.
Work with the store manager to achieve or exceed budgeted sales projections while maintaining expenses within management-allocated parameters to achieve profitability.
Assist the manager with building and equipment maintenance.
Provide backup cylinder delivery.
Perform other duties as assigned.
