About The Position
American University is seeking a Part-Time Costume Shop Technician to support the daily operations of the costume shop and create costumes for performances. This role reports directly to the Costume Shop Designer and involves assisting in all aspects of costume construction, alterations, and facility maintenance. The technician will also supervise student staff and support production work across different theatre spaces.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years relevant work experience in costume or tailor shop.
Responsibilities
- Assist in all aspects of the costume shop daily operations and costume builds.
- Supervise student staff in the costume shop and on wardrobe crews.
- Participate in fittings, consultations, and shop work.
- Build costumes as needed, perform alterations, and craftwork pertaining to their specialty.
- Assist in maintaining costume facilities and ensuring proper procedures are followed.
- Assist in managing and organizing extensive costume storage.
- Support production work in both Katzen and Greenberg theatre, including delivering/picking up costumes, assisting in stitching, and supporting guest designers.
- Other duties as assigned.
