About The Position

TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, is seeking a student for the Cosmic Muon Setup Development project. This role involves working with 'Cosmic Watches' - scintillator-based muon detectors - as part of an outreach initiative. The project aims to use data from distributed detectors to set up combined data analysis and event displays for visualization. The student will contribute to creating event displays and analysis pipelines to transform raw detector data into engaging scientific visualizations.

Requirements

  • Experience with programming in Python, JavaScript, C++, or a similar language.
  • Familiarity with data processing, analysis, and visualization techniques.
  • Interest in software development, scientific computing, or particle physics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on technical projects.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data visualization tools, web development, or Git is considered an asset.
  • Skills required: Data Analysis, Detectors, General Programming, Particle Physics, Real Time Data

Responsibilities

  • Develop and document analysis software capable of combining and processing data from multiple detectors.
  • Create event displays and visualization tools for cosmic ray and shower event analysis.
  • Support development of data interfacing and access functionality for detector data.
  • Assist with testing, validation, and documentation of software tools and workflows.
