About The Position

TRIUMF, Canada's particle accelerator centre, is seeking a motivated undergraduate co-op student to support the integration and commissioning of the ion beam transport facility at ARIEL. This role involves translating 3D models into detailed 2D electromechanical layouts and supporting the creation of beamline operational diagrams. The student will collaborate closely with physicists, mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers to produce accurate drawings essential for electrostatic beamline operations. This position offers hands-on experience in design documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and real-world engineering applications within a leading laboratory for particle and nuclear physics and accelerator-based science.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in: Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related discipline (with relevant CAD/design experience).

Responsibilities

  • Access and interpret 3D CAD models in SolidWorks to generate 2D drawings for beamline assemblies and sub-systems.
  • Create detailed electromechanical layouts including optical components, diagnostics, and cable routing.
  • Ensure drawings comply with company standards and applicable drafting standards (e.g., ANSI, ISO).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (physicist, mechanical, electrical, controls) to ensure design accuracy and integration.
  • Update and revise drawings based on design iterations, testing feedback, and engineering changes.
  • Maintain organized documentation, including revision history and drawing releases.
