About The Position

The Cosmetologist provides beauty services at The Spa Loews Arlington, including shampooing, cutting, and styling hair and massaging and treating the scalp. Services may also include makeup application, wig dressing, hair removal, and nail and skin care, as permitted by current certifications. The role assesses guest contraindications, recommends suitable treatments, explains product benefits, and responds professionally to guest questions. The cosmetologist maintains timely appointments, clean and properly set work areas, equipment, and client treatment records, and completes assigned side work, meetings, and professional training. The position reports to the Spa Director.

Requirements

• Valid state cosmetology license.
• Ability to explain treatments and services to guests.
• Excellent customer service skills and work ethic.
• Efficient, well organized, and able to handle a variety of duties simultaneously.
• Energetic, enthusiastic, and motivational.
• Professional manner, discretion, and appearance.
• Excellent verbal and written skills.
• Strong team player and comfortable making product recommendations.
• Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for long periods.
• Awareness of proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
• Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, and talk, and to use hands and arms to handle objects and reach.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

• Training or certification from a hair styling or cosmetology school.
• Customer service experience, preferably in a spa.
• Previous hair styling experience.

Responsibilities

• Use universal precautions and assess guest contraindications before providing services.
• Cut, trim, and shape hair or hairpieces according to guest instructions, hair type, and facial features.
• Analyze guests' hair and physical features to recommend beauty treatments or hairstyles.
• Bleach, dye, or tint hair, and shampoo, rinse, condition, and dry hair and scalp or hairpieces.
• Perform treatments listed on the services menu that are covered by current certifications.
• Recommend other beneficial spa treatments and explain product ingredients and benefits.
• Answer guest questions knowledgeably and professionally.
• Begin and end treatments on time and work the assigned schedule.
• Keep work areas clean and set up according to procedures; clean and disinfect equipment daily.
• Inform the supervisor of product needs and maintain client cards with treatment notes when appropriate.
• Complete assigned side work and attend scheduled meetings and professional training.
