About The Position

The Nebraska Correctional Center for Women is seeking a Unit Manager candidate who models the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence as we accomplish our mission, "Keep people safe."

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or a related field and one year of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR Associate’s degree in criminal justice, behavioral sciences, human services or related field and three years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience; OR five years of corrections experience, including supervisory experience.
  • No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.
  • Transcripts required prior to appointment.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in NDCS Custody and/or Unit Management.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish desired and assessed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all departmental and institutional policies and procedures are implemented as to provide acceptable security, sanitation and case management functions on the designated housing unit.
  • Supervise and evaluate case managers and caseworkers
  • Schedule team member leave time.
  • Ensure assigned team members receive required training.
  • Chair the Unit Classification Committee and the Unit Disciplinary Committee.
  • Participate as a member of the Institutional Disciplinary Committee.
  • Ensure all grievances are investigated and processed in a timely fashion as defined by procedure.
  • Approve/deny in-house incarcerated individual’s moves.
  • Review incarcerated individual special purchases.
  • Coordinate unit staff meetings.
  • Coordinates incarcerated individual treatment plans to ensure timely follow-up on programs enrolled in and proper referral to needed programs and diagnostic assessment including self betterment, chemical dependency, mental health, medical, academic, and vocational, or special referrals.
  • Ensure all grievances are investigated and processed in a timely fashion as defined by procedure.
