About The Position

This position reports directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager at a multi-custody female correctional facility and provides first-line supervision for Correctional Officer II’s. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Requirements

Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
Pass a criminal background check
Produce a negative drug screening result
Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
Possess a valid driver’s license
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as Correctional Officer II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.

Nice To Haves

Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedures, and/or Facility Operations.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision for subordinate staff, conducting shift line-up, making shift assignments, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post.
Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
Account for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
Assign lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post, overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security and welfare of offenders is maintained.
Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
