About The Position

This position reports to the Facility Maintenance Manager and is located at the NC Correctional Institution for Women. The role involves performing work in the areas of heating/air conditioning and refrigeration. Key duties include troubleshooting, installing, repairing, and providing preventive maintenance service on HVAC energy control management systems on renovations and construction. The position also assists in installing electrical conduits and wiring for HVAC electrical circuits, instructs lower-level assistants and offenders in performing intermediate technical repairs, and provides technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management systems. The work is performed according to instructions from the supervisor, policies, NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies. All safety guidelines and procedures must be followed during installation, repair, and removal of HVAC systems. Assistance with daily tasks and/or special projects will be in close contact with offenders. Work tasks may require repairs of equipment outside his/her specialty trade, so knowledge of diverse trades is required.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems in repair/install and preventive maintenance.
