About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Currently, the Omaha Correctional Center is seeking a self-motivated, results-driven candidate in the position of Corrections Librarian. The Librarian incumbent will model the NDCS values of integrity, respect, compassion, growth, and excellence as we accomplish our mission, "Keep people safe." Requirements

Post high school coursework/training in library science
Experience in providing library services
Experience serving the library users
Must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
Must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program to include CPR, first aid, and self-defense tactics.

Responsibilities

Manages the library services and operations within a correctional institution including both a recreational library and a legal library.
Maintaining circulation
Conducting inter-library loans
Procuring, processing, and cataloging books and other materials such as periodicals, CDs, DVDs, materials, documents, images and supplies.
Provide day-to-day library services in a variety of library operations
Supervise and assist inmates and inmate workers
Performs related work as required or assigned.
