About The Position

The Department of Corrections, Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Corrections Nurse 4 located at the Anchorage Central Office in Anchorage, Alaska. This position involves the development and implementation of correctional nurse education, coordinating healthcare services with other correctional departments (security, mental health, reentry, and education), working with electronic record keeping for nursing continuing education and compliance maintenance, and functioning within a multi-disciplinary team in a leadership role. A key responsibility is the continuous maintenance and tracking of nursing education and compliance for over 150 staff members.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Three years of cumulative experience as a Registered Nurse, at least one of which must have involved directing and reviewing the work of lower-level professional nursing staff on a unit and/or shift.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
  • Ability to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.
  • Legal right to accept employment in the United States.
  • Must be fingerprinted.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior service as a Corrections Nurse 3, Psychiatric Nurse 3, or Nurse 3 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
  • Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Psychiatric, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of correctional nurse education.
  • Coordinate healthcare services with other correctional departments, such as security, mental health, reentry, and education.
  • Work with electronic record keeping for nursing continuing education and compliance maintenance.
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team in a leadership role.
  • Continuous maintenance and tracking of nursing education and compliance for greater than 150 staff members.
  • Travel outside the Anchorage area, often varying from 1-5 days.
  • Frequent use of online educational programming and tracking.
  • Ability to create scientifically based educational programming and skills checkoffs for nursing education and data analysis of completed and its benefits in daily practice.
