The Department of Corrections, Division of Administration and Support, is recruiting for a Research Analyst 3 position located in Juneau, Alaska. This role involves designing and leading complex research projects on Alaska’s correctional population, using techniques that may be without precedent, and translating results into analyses that shape Department policy and resource decisions. The position requires building and querying SQL databases (T-SQL) and developing reproducible analyses in Python (using Jupyter notebooks, Quarto, and VS Code) to combine, clean, analyze, and report data from multiple systems. It also involves applying modern methods like machine learning, generative AI, and agentic engineering to enhance research and reporting. A key responsibility is safeguarding the integrity of the Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS) through quality-control reports, discrepancy documentation, and data correction. The role includes leading and developing the Research Analyst 2 and producing the unit’s flagship products, such as the annual Offender Profile, agency performance measures, and recurring data requests from partners like the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
