About The Position

This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for a full-time Protective Service Specialist 4 located in Bethel, Anchorage, Wasilla, or Fairbanks, Alaska. The individual in this position is responsible for Child Protection Services. They are the bridge between management and line staff, while also acting as a resource within the office and community, and serving as a community liaison with other agencies. They supervise a number of caseworkers, assigning, reviewing and consulting on cases. They have a variety of administrative functions, as well as providing personnel management for their staff. Requirements

  • Valid Alaska driver's license.
  • Child protective history check will be performed per AS 12.62.160 and/or 13 AAC 68.315 including a background and fingerprint check.
  • Must be able to attend multiple training courses normally located in Anchorage.
  • Competencies in Decision Making, Flexibility, and Leadership.
  • Calm, patient, problem-solver, and able to work within a busy and diverse environment.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving, Integrity/Honesty, Interpersonal Skills, Oral Communication, Writing, Technical Credibility, Developing Others, Influencing/Negotiating.
  • Training in a social science, behavioral science, health science, guidance and counseling, or a closely related field and/or progressively responsible professional experience providing assistance, information or referrals to the general public related to social services, health care, or legal services; in child, adult, family, or group case management, licensing, or probation services; or providing care or services to delinquent juveniles.
  • Must have current automotive insurance if using a personal vehicle for work-related matters.
  • Must fill in the Education section of the application.
  • Must provide copies of transcripts to verify educational credentials.
  • Must document work experience in the application, including employer name, job title, dates of employment, and whether full- or part-time.
  • Must certify legal right to accept employment in the United States.
