About The Position
As a Corrections Food Service Instructor with the Department of Corrections (DOC), you take an active role in teaching inmates practical skills that prepare them for future success. You help oversee food preparation and sanitation practices that keep kitchen operations running smoothly at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Laurel Highlands. Your guidance helps inmates build confidence and strong work habits. Join a team that values training, structure, and positive progress.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates how to prepare, cook, and serve meals according to recipes
- Instruct inmates in safe and sanitary use, cleaning, and storage of tools and equipment
- Inspect kitchens, adjust recipes, and monitor food and supply storage following proper standards
- Plan, track, and evaluate inmate work assignments while maintaining care, custody, and control
- Provide on-the-job vocational instruction and ensure that meals are prepared and served in a timely manner
