About The Position
The Corrections Plumbing Trade Instructor with the Department of Corrections gives you the chance to guide inmates through practical learning at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Somerset. This role allows you to share your trade knowledge while helping students build confidence and strong work habits. This role delivers plumbing instruction and oversees daily training that strengthens both safety and vocational growth.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in the inspection, maintenance, repair, assembly, and installation of pipes, fittings, and fixtures used in heating, water, and drainage systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the plumbing trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the plumbing trade.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach plumbing trade practices in classroom and on-the-job settings
- Monitor inmate progress, maintain order, and review completed work assignments
- Lead inmate work crews and assign daily schedules for plumbing projects
- Issue, track, and secure tools and materials used during training and work assignments
- Identify needed materials and submit purchase requests to support plumbing projects
