About The Position
The Department of Corrections (DOC), State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated person with the required experience to work as a Corrections Food Service Instructor. This position focuses on leading inmate workers and providing hands-on instruction in food service operations at SCI Phoenix. The role supports safe practices, organized workflow, and the development of useful vocational skills.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates how to prepare, produce, and serve food, following safe and sanitary practices
- Inspect food, equipment, and service areas to ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Monitor menus, adjust recipes, and manage food and supply storage with first-in, first-out procedures
- Plan work assignments, evaluate inmate performance, and maintain accurate worker records
- Provide additional food service or facility support tasks as assigned
