About The Position

The Corrections Counselor 1 position with the Department of Corrections offers an opportunity to guide and support individuals at the State Correctional institution (SCI) at Dallas as they navigate their rehabilitation journey. You will help inmates develop skills that prepare them for positive change and future success. This role encourages growth and brings purpose to every day as you help others find stability and direction. This position focuses on providing counseling and casework services to inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Dallas. The role supports rehabilitation, adjustment, and preparation for community re-entry.

Requirements

  • Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or A bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interview inmates to support adjustment and encourage progress
  • Develop and maintain reports and documentation for inmate caseloads
  • Analyze test results and compile histories for case planning
  • Coordinate treatment objectives and support compliance with plans
  • Prepare reports and assist with re-entry services and recommendations
