About The Position
As a Corrections Counselor 1 with the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center (CCC), you will take part in important work that supports reentrants as they return to the community. This position offers hands-on experience in case management, counseling, and group facilitation. You will encourage reentrants to build life skills, strengthen relationships, and work toward personal goals. Join a mission-driven team committed to helping individuals move forward with confidence! This beginning-level professional position helps reentrants develop important life skills through counseling, structured activities, and planned casework within the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center. The role focuses on building confidence, supporting goals, and strengthening connections to community resources.
Requirements
- Three years and six months as a corrections officer, and 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or A bachelor’s degree including 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 18 college credits in any combination of sociology, counseling, psychology, social work, corrections, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
- Must obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) and Pennsylvania Justice Network (JNET) certification within two months of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this job.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Must meet the PA residency requirement.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Assist reentrants in setting and achieving goals related to employment, education, housing, and personal development
- Provide assistance in urgent situations, conduct assessments, and make appropriate referrals
- Lead group sessions, discussions, and seminars that promote pro-social behavior and positive decision making
- Use structured intervention tools to help reentrants practice problem-solving and practical skills
- Coordinate resources, participate in meetings, and promote understanding of the CCC mission
- Maintain accurate electronic case files and record reentrant progress according to required standards
