The Corrections Counselor 5 supervises at least one Corrections Counselor 4, including performance evaluations, work performance standards, schedule assignments and review, training, and discipline. This role may also supervise lower-level professional, technical, and/or administrative staff as needed. Key responsibilities include providing psychological testing, assessments, treatment planning and implementation, psychotherapy, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training. The position involves performing psychological evaluations, selecting and administering appropriate psychological tests, interpreting results, and interviewing individuals to determine treatment, programming, or placement needs. Psychotherapeutic services are provided utilizing individual and group therapy, biofeedback therapy, relaxation training, substance abuse, and pain management counseling. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but is subject to change. Extended hours and overtime may be required on short notice in cases of emergency. Up to 50% travel is expected. Corrections Counselors within the Nevada Department of Corrections provide mental health services to offenders in a correctional setting, including interviews, behavioral planning and implementation, consultation, psycho-educational classes, research, and training.
