About The Position

The Correctional Sergeant II position is based at Mountain View Correctional Institution in Avery County, North Carolina. Mountain View is a medium-custody male facility housing approximately 908 offenders and providing educational classes and rehabilitation programs. The role provides first-line supervision to Correctional Officer II staff in a medium-custody facility, supporting custody and security coverage. The position reports to a Correctional Lieutenant.

The position is designated as mandatory during adverse weather and must report to work or stay over during adverse weather events. This is an internal posting open to current North Carolina Department of Adult Correction employees, eligible North Carolina State Government Reduction in Force candidates, and current temporary employees.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and two years and six months of experience as a Correctional Officer, or two years of experience as a Correctional Officer II, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
• Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must produce a negative drug screening result.
• Must successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
